Public Transportation

Approximately one 3rd of Boston’s population uses the public transit for their commute to work. MBTA operates what is now the 4th busiest rapid transit system in the country, including the 8th busiest bus network in the nation, as well as water shuttles and the nation’s 5th-busiest commuter rail network, spreading on more than 200 miles, stretching north to the Merrimack Valley, south to Providence and west to Worcester.

Major Highways and Roads

I-90 – its eastern terminus is in Boston, at Route 1A, near Logan International Airport.

Massachusetts Turnpike - begins at the western border of Massachusetts in West Stockbridge and ends at Logan International Airport in East Boston.

Route 128 – a partial beltway around Boston.

I-95 – follows the route 128 loop around the Greater Boston area to Peabody, from where it splits and turns north towards the Merrimack River.

US 1 and I-93 - run concurrently north to south through the city from Charlestown to Dorchester.

How to get to Boston University campus?

Easy! Just follow the driving directions listed below!

From Logan International Airport: Start by heading north and turn left. Merge onto Massachusetts 1A S, via the ramp to Sumner Tunnel/Government Center/I-93 N and turn left to stay on Massachusetts 1A S. Take the ramp to MA-3 N/Massachusetts 3A N and keep right at the fork to continue toward MA-3 N/Massachusetts 3A N. Keep right at the fork, follow the signs for MA-28 S/MA-3 N/Storrow Dr and merge onto MA-3 N/Massachusetts 3A N. Make a slight right at Embankment Road and another one at Storrow Dr. Take the ramp on the left to Kenmore Square/Fenway and make a slight left at Charlesgate W. Take the 2nd right, onto Commonwealth Avenue, and make a slight right to stay on Commonwealth Avenue. Make a U-turn at Mountfort Street. BU will be on the right.
